Since [tex]\mathbf u+\mathbf v=(-4+4)\,\vec i+(1+1)\,\vec j=2\,\vec j[/tex]

so the norm is

[tex]\|\mathbf u+\mathbf v\|=\sqrt{2^2}=2[/tex]
